Welcome to The Verhildersum Estate
Come along too! To admire the borg and for a lovely walk in the sculpture garden. Stroll quietly through the farmlands, past the orchard and livestock. Along the way, take a look at the workers' cottage and our museum farm. In the carriage house you will find a museum store with books, trinkets and treats.
The estate has several exhibitions again this year. From March 29 through June 30, 2024 sculptor Gert Sennema, exhibits sculptures in the carriage house. And from July 9 through November 3, Harry Cock will exhibit photographs in the Coach House: View of the North. Exhibitions in the farmhouse include 'Sparkling Black' and 'Ede Staal: my Groningen - mien Grunn'. For an overview of all exhibitions, take a look at our calendar! For a drink and a delicious lunch you can visit Restaurant Ons Schathoes.
Online exhibits
The exhibition of antique samplers (2021) can be seen online. See the samplers now as close as you like. The exhibition Clothes, dresses and doll clothes (2022) is also online. So you can continue to enjoy the textile collection, even though it is back in storage.
Verhildersum Manor and Estate
Welcome to Landgoed Verhildersum. Here you will discover and experience the history of Northwest Groningen, close to the Wadden Sea and the Lauwersmeer area. The Borg — the castle of the landed gentry — forms the heart of the estate, which you reach via an ancient and stately driveway. Around it are the gardens, containing bronze sculptures created by Eddy Roos. Surrounded by the farmlands, some of which were raised into mounds in earlier times. Here, you will find grasses and grains, an old orchard, and historic breeds of cows. This museum estate tells the story of the Hogeland in the 19th century. About old nobility and new borg residents, an innovative, emerging peasantry and the farmworkers.
Events
As of June 2024, we have started a new event at the Verhildersum Museum Farm. Every third Sunday of the month we are going to organize a fun activity. This can be a music performance, a lecture, or something else. Tickets for the estate also give access to the performance and are available online or at the front desk of the Museum Farm and the Coach House. For example, June 23 there was a musical performance by Gert Sennema & Westkantstad and July 21 Fre Schreiber was our guest. Keep an eye on our calendar, regional newspapers and social media!
Events & Exhibitions
Besides its exhibitions, the Borg has plenty of other attractions. Come and see its 19th century interior, visit the attic and enjoy our ‘under the floorboards’ presentation. Hear, see and experience the story of the new rich, the worker, and the farmer.
