Exhibition Sparkling Black
Black clothing is usually associated with mourning, but black was also a popular fashion color in some periods. Verhildersum is showing masterpieces from its own textile collection with the exhibition 'Sparkling Black'. Women's clothing from the 19th century. Black has never shone so brightly!
Decorations in black
Museum Borg Verhildersum shows fashion and mourning clothing from the 19th century in the farmhouse exhibition room. Be amazed at how fashionable black shiny fabrics were richly decorated with beads, fringe, feathers, fur, and embroidery.
Mourning and marriage
The choice of black often had practical reasons as well. After all, black could be worn on a variety of occasions. People even married in black. According to etiquette, mourning garments were not shiny but dull black.
This exhibition was put together by the permanent textile committee of Verhildersum. It can be viewed from 29 March to 3 November during the opening hours of Museum Borg Verhildersum.
